A great homestead creation making using of fat from a processed ruminent or pork. I will shortly follow-up with a more detailed post on animal fat but for now here's a quick recipes to keep your feathered wildlife fed this winter. ❄️🐦
1 cup lard or tallow
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup flour
1 cup cornmeal
2 cups birdseed
2 cup oats/barley
Melt one cup of peanut butter and 1 cup of lard over low heat. In a large bowl, mix 2 cups of quick oats, 2 cups of bird seed mix, one cup of cornmeal & 1 cup of flour. Stir melted ingredients into the dry mix. Once cool, press into parchment-lined trays or suet molds and refrigerate or freeze overnight. When hardened, cut into desired shape and store in cool dry place. Wrap in parchment for ease of handling.
